Welcome

With the creation of this blog, my hope is to provide another resource for planning Sunday School lessons and children's activities, particularly for teaching about the Orthodox Christian faith. I want to share with others books, craft ideas and lesson planning materials that have worked well for me in the classroom.

My disclaimer... I do not possess a teaching credential, but have taught different ages for more than seven years in a number of different settings. I started off tutoring adults and children of immigrant families in the U.S. from 1998 to 2002. Later, I went on to teach in China for two years where I mainly taught English to Kindergarteners, but I also taught older children as well as college-age students. After China, I got my Masters of Public Administration and for the last 4 years have worked in China's international development field. In 2008, I began teaching Sunday School for the Kindergarten-age children at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Washington, DC.

Also worth mentioning... I'm a convert to Orthodoxy, so this is a learning process for me as well, which is one of the reasons that I enjoy teaching Sunday School so much. I'd like to think that being a convert also gives me a unique perspective. I hope this relative newness to Orthodoxy will help me approach my lessons with fresh eyes, much like those of the children that I teach. I welcome comments and suggestions not only to help fine tune my role as a teacher, but also my role as a new mom raising my son in the Orthodox Christian faith.
